The encounter

An encounter in Amboseli.

Cheetah with cubs, Amboseli National Park, Kenya. Photograph by Mital Patel.

The Swift One began with a mother cheetah in Amboseli National Park, Kenya. Photographed by Mital Patel in 2022, she was raising three cubs in the landscape where this encounter unfolded.

I watched her lead her three cubs to higher ground, scanning the surroundings as they went. Then, as she seemed to relax, they began playing together. Watching her shift from being so watchful to joining her cubs in play is what stayed with me.

From Lens to Line.

The cheetah’s natural form and distinctive coat patterns drew me to this photograph. The geometric interpretation brings those qualities into a balance of lines and shapes, preserving her character while giving the artwork a simplicity of its own.
